Jamaican Black Castor Seed Oil is made from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis), just like all other kinds of nut or seed oil. The processing method is different, while clear castor oil is pressed from fresh seeds, Jamaican black castor seed is made by first roasting those seeds and then pressing them to get Jamaican black castor oil. The roasting process makes a small amount of ash. The ash tends to be more alkaline and higher in PH This higher PH can help to clarify the scalp and remove dandruff or dirt that may be clogging up the pores.
