Cupping and Gua Sha Body Treatments

Cupping is an ancient therapeutic technique used for thousands of years that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The cups can be made of various materials such as glass, bamboo, silicone or plastic. Cupping is believed to promote healing by improving blood flow, releasing tension, and stimulating the flow of energy or “qi” in traditional Chinese medicine.

In Dry Cupping, a vacuum is created inside the cup by using suction. The cup is placed on the skin, as it creates a suction effect that draws the skin and underlying tissues into the cup. The cups are usually left in place for a few minutes, and they can be stationary or moved around to created a massage-like effect. Cupping is often used to address muscle tension, pain and inflammation. It is commonly applied to the back, shoulders but can be used on other areas of the body. Some people will find this technique to be relaxing and therapeutic, while others may experience temporary redness, bruising, or skin discoloration at the cupping sites, which usually resolves within a few days.

Gua Sha Massage is a traditional Chinese healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a smooth edged tool to promote blood flow and stimulate the energy (qi) in the body.
